Drums.

First, let me say that this song shows some definite potential, and there are parts that are damn awesome, but...

I'd really advise not to use more trance/club oriented samples in a DnB song. Instead you'd be better off with some old recordings and a slicer. I'd take some drumbeat I liked and slice it up, then layer punchier kick samples on top of that.

Also, I think you need to lower the lead synth and the bass in the mix a bit, as they're drowning out the drums a little bit and taking away some of the impact of the song.

Otherwise, it isn't a bad effort, and with a little mastering and some different drum samples you could have something really interesting on your hands.

Ok, thanks for the review man :) ;-)
I'll take a look at another Drumpad to take in this, but I was looking, found one, but i needed to register myself, and it didn't work, i had always a fould that i couldn't register,
oh, and that 'bout the synth & bass, that wasn't really when i was playing it in Fl and in windows media player =S
but I'll put it down a bit! ;-)

Thanks for review, + great advise! ;-)

What can I say?

I liked it before, and I like it now. Good job man, and I don't even like hardstyle!

DomesticTerrorist responds:

:D thanks! I tried to fix it up the best I could haha.

Awesome melody.

I really like your melody, and the kick is pretty damn heavy too. The production was nice and clean, it just took a while to really get going. Not bad at all tho. What synth do you use, it sounds almost like a a z3ta+ on the Commercial trance patch, but a little less phat and cleaner, I like it. Add some more diversity and length and you have an impressive piece of music.

Overall pretty damn cool.

DomesticTerrorist responds:

Thanks! The lead is 3 different edited z3ta presets from various packs layered on top of eachother haha. The bass is another edited z3ta preset layered with one of my custom samples I loaded into the FL soundfont player. I'm glad you liked the production, but the truth is, I haven't even touched the drums or the master channel! haha.

Thanks for the review, and I also plan to add in more kick hits in the final version.

Cool drums.

Really, those drums are pretty damn cool sounding. Real glitchy and diverse. You obviously diddn't just loop one pattern, which is really cool to hear.

Not much else to say really, add a nice phat bass and you have a damn near perfect cover.

kevindurante responds:

Thanks, I don't think I'm doing any more edits on this, I'm going to go and start creating my own songs with this style and try to develop my own style. I will definitely add bass in upcoming songs though =]
Thanks for the input!

DAMN!

This is why all DJs should learn to produce DnB before any other genre! Maybe it's just my personal preference, but the saturation and agression you capture in this song without being cheesy like 99% of dance is awesome. Kudos to you man!

My only criticism is that the lead synth lacks a bit of depth. It just seems a bit simplistic compared to the organic depth of the rest of the song. I don't know what engine you're using, but it sounds like a 3xosc, and if that's the case maybe throwing some subtle LFO filters or phasers would help. It's good now, it just doesn't have that organic feel of a lot of the rest of this song. Once again however, this is merely my personal preference.

Hehe, thankyou for the review! :)

And i really do agree with you about the Synth, it really needs beasting up a bit... But bearing in mind my CPU was getting raped at that point, i decided to call it a day! :)

Thanks man! :)

NOt too shabby.

For a first song it's not that bad at all. The bass is a little annoying, but that beat is really cool sounding, and it's certainly got a distinct feel to it. Keep it up and you'll get better.

TheDylanGod responds:

well thank you very much! I'm going to keep it up for sure. This stuff is fun :)

Interesting...

The production is pretty good, it's clean and all. That and I really like some of the synths you used, it doesn't sound like typical DnB at all, and I find that refreshing. The drums are also pretty good, they're really dry, but it fits the song well, and they're nice and punchy too. There's also a ton of variation in your rhythms, which is always cool to hear.

But I gotta fault you for the chord progression. It's incredibly overused, and while it does fit the feeling you're going for pretty well, I would have liked to hear a bit more experimental-ness with your structure, as all other parts of this song are so unique sounding.

Overall pretty damn good though, and cool description too. Nice work.

Quarl responds:

I'm not very good when it comes to melody... being a drummer and all... can I fuck your hand?

It isn't that bad.

I'm not going to lie, you definetely sound new to fl in this, and I can hear a ton of synth presets and a few clips, but you're off to an aight start. Production is still far and away better than a lot of newbies'. I'm interested to see what you make in the future, especially to hear songs that don't use this chord progression.

But you're off to a start, good luck.

AerostarMusic responds:

Thank you. Yeah, I haven't really played around with changing preset values yet. But thanks for the feedback - I'm definitely going to keep practicing in FL.

You're right, it's not really techno...

But who really cares. I like this song a lot, and you obviously know more than a bit of music theory, as this is a quite well written song. I only have one complaint really, and that's that you shouldn't use FL Core samples. It's not a big deal here because I really liked the song anyways, but in the future you can see huge improvement in the quality of your music by simply using samples that aren't immediately recognizable.

Great song tho.

Drawoh responds:

yah, I used what I had at hand xD
Didn't have much so I had to improvise a bit :P

Thanks for tha review anyways ^^

Impressive.

Judging that you made this to test mastering, I'm not so much talking about the quality of the song in specific, but the mastering.

And it's damn good. This song has a lot of polish, heh. I must say I'm pretty impressed with the job you've done.

Foraum responds:

Thanks man. Maybe I'll turn it into a full song sometime. One where I actually spend more time on arranging then on mastering ;)

I makes the songs.
